I Bring Western Lifestyle Home

I learned so many things when I was staying abroad especially their good lifestyle that influenced  me dramatically ever since.

When the first time I touched down at the US in the winter time 2011,  I needed winter clothes, then I just realized how cheap the price of one clothe is, it only cost one dollar in Salvation Army store. Later,  I knew from my friends over there, this store collected donation stuff from society and sale it and give the money to the charity organization. People donate their stuff a lot, even though a brand new one.  This thing made me curios,  how come they donate their brand new stuff to this charity shop. I finally got the answer from the seller,  sometimes they got present from friends or relatives but they didn’t need it. They decided to put it on a charity box. As they live in a  modern society, they don't want to collect and keep many things, because the stuff make the house is full of dust and dirty,  at the same time other people who need a certain stuff can use it. Another reason is because of the weather, the US has four season in a year.  Whenever The summer’s gone,  the clothes  must be out from cupboard, if you still keep the clothes for next year, they will be broken by the weather.

Speaking of modern lifestyle in the west countries,  I noticed the people did not save a lot of money or kept it at a bank for their children in the future.  Yup, the thing that’s commonly happened soon after  they collected a decent amount of  money, they mostly used it for a long trip.  In general, the purpose of their traveling is healing.  The culture about having a trip is supported by companies and schools. For example,  companies will give extra money for holiday leave. You can take it anytime you plan to go.

Besides having no many stuff in the house or save money for traveling around the world instead of using it for their children,  western people tend to consume heathy food. I am a moslem, perform fasting during ramadan month. I was amazed previously since I knew they also liked to do this for health reasons, such as: water fasting and intermittent fasting. Basically, They love to do work out at the gym.  Every university has a sport center includes a gym. The best experience I have ever had related to healthy lifestyle is when I was in Germany 2012 which all the students and lecturers mostly used bicycle. Comparing to Indonesia,  in every parking area there are so many motorcycles. However in Goettingen German parking areas are just bicycles that park here and there. There is more,  When I lived in New Zealand in 2014, New Zealanders loved to go to gym. The gyms even open until midnight.

In conclusion. We can learn about good habits from western culture,  especially for their healthy routines as well as the way they enjoy their money for healing, traveling abroad.  They don't collect many stuff at their homes but they give them as donation. Speaking of healthy food and working out are also the good things that I learned a lot from overseas friends. If I am being honest, I miss learning about a new and good thing like when I was still living abroad. May Allah allows me to have another experience to stay overseas for a while, Aamiin.
